
The City of Saint Paul is a national leader in sustainable, urban living by “acting locally” to help reverse the negative effects of global warming. In 2006, the City of Saint Paul adopted the goal of becoming a zero-waste city by 2020, and is a national leader in demonstrating the best waste reduction and recycling practices. It is also deeply committed to increasing public art by incorporating it into the city’s infrastructure and amenities.
Saint Paul’s nonprofit partner in recycling and waste reduction, Eureka recycling demonstrates that waste is preventable, not inevitable. Eureka Recycling partners with the city to craft zero-waste policies and strategic plans to achieve zero waste on many issues, including public space recycling.
Public Art Saint Paul’s Beyond Green initiatives explore environmentally conscious art-making, promote public space recycling, and establish dialogues between artists and scientists to explore how public art can contribute to the essential work of making our world more sustainable.
Marcus Young makes conceptual and behavioral art which has included slow-walking and smiling, drawing very long lines, whispering, and writing fortunes for fortune cookies. Saint Paul Public Artist in Residence through a program sponsored by Public Art Saint Paul. His public projects include Everyday Poems for City Sidewalk and Wishes for the Sky.
A Frogtown-based leader in public art, Seitu has created over 30 large-scale public artworks working on his own or in collaboration. Seitu works in a variety of media, from public murals to furniture and gardens in his public and private commissions.
