the mysterious box arrived the day before my 46 birthday in the hands of a favorite artist friend. it was a gift in many senses. bringing the practice of art into the present. the cloth river of words flowing from the bottle, nestled in the lined box. i love the little bottle stitched into the bottom of the box. i love the vessels, the traveling gift, the anticipation of giving the gift. i walked in the park to think of who to pass the gift on to. i placed the box next to the orchid in the window and waited for the person I decided upon to come back from doing a performance residency about water. the day finally came and we met in the park on a sunny monday afternoon. i learned from my friend about an artist who died recently at the corner of mears park, crossing the street with her dog early one morning. we sat in the lovely park on a lovely day remembering a lovely life. this simple act of giving created a moment for a story to live and move from one person to another.Marcus Y @ Jax Building
